I’ve lived in Utah, Arizona, and Idaho and have always had a public library card. What’s crazy is that the Idaho Falls library is my favorite! It’s not as beautiful as the Provo, Utah library but I love it most. These are the reasons:
I love the IFPL hold system. You can put any number of books, or up to 10 movies per card on hold (even if they’re not already checked out), and a librarian will go get the book for you or when someone returns the item, the library will hold them for you for a week. You don’t even have to go searching for them.
Secondly, there’s no late fees! You can’t check anything else out until you return an item that’s late, but you also don’t have to stress if you can’t get a book to the library on a certain date.
Lastly, they have a great summer reading program for kids! I do wish they’d open a little earlier but it’s my favorite library by far and I’ve been to a lot!!
Honestly one of the nicer libraries I've ever been to, really large with a decent amount of study areas. Cozy and a really nice staff. My biggest complaints are the fact that it's not open on Sunday, not a huge deal but would be nice. The koi pond looks unfinished, but still not terrible by any means. The parking situation is kind of bad, but not too far away there's some free parking. There is also a slight homelessness problem that's kind of common in this area of the United States. But they also have some really nice clubs / activities each week that are actually fairly popular and a great place to meet new people. I especially liked the chess club on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but their dungeons & dragons group was also popular.
Amazing plethora of books to choose from. Clean and mostly quiet. Love the koi fish and monstera plant in the atrium. So glad the librarians got ahead of book banning nonsense with the re-issued underage library cards.
I have loved our library for years. Great staff and a good selection of books.
This is a beautiful, well run library. My only gripe is that people are no longer "shushed". I learned young that I loved the library and it's tranquility. Our children will never have the opportunity to find out if they are "readers". There's enough distractions every where else.
Great experience with plenty of good old fashioned entertainment for the kids. There's even actual books! 😉💯 There's also a great selection for the adults too! 😊 On a serious note, the Idaho Falls Public Library has a lot to offer. There's not only books, there's also a great computer lab, audiobook rentals and plenty of quiet study areas. I would highly recommend! 👍
Love the Idaho Falls Library. Lots of activities for kids to do. The staff there do so good with story time. They make it so interactive for the kids. Tons of books! Lots of quiet spaces to sit and read/do puzzles/chess/checkers etc.
Recommending that if they offer a creative writing class, summer expression writing class do not leverage the main space/tables with ALL the electrical outlets so that those who might need them can not use them who are also writing.
Dear Lady (librarian who needs to modernize) … Do not use large poster sheets. They are anti inspiration for young writers and honestly it felt like … what you wrote down; pressure, made one see bad and a negative self worth, state your are incompetent, lectured, and killed all creativity to focused on writing under pressure.
Instead leverage the tables by the audio room and windows with NO outlets so young writers can look out the window, ponder, dream and be inspired.
Plus if you have to have those depressing sheets you have space to the sides of the windows so they can ignore … dream, inspire, and remove the writers roadblock (your horrible summer program librarian is teaching them to embrace writers blocks).
